Crafty 2020 Themed makes

As you may have seen in an earlier post I have made several rainbow themed items this year, inspired by the lockdown rainbows.

I love making things to a theme or for a personalised interest. Emily is now 13 and every year I have made her a card with her current interests on it, not sure if I have photos of them all, but here are some of them

My photos have not improved over the years and with Emily’s birthday being in February there is not a lot of light.

In 2016 I did a whole range of Elephant cards inspired by Herd of Sheffield

During lockdown we had a family theme make, which of course was cats. I made a picture for Oreo and some earrings

Die cut cat, with word art background, stitched lettering and embossed paws

A few weeks ago I discovered a craft website that runs card making challenges to a theme. The style of cards on the site is quite different to mine, but I decided to join in anyway

Theme was the rhyme We went to the animal fair

I used X cut shadow box die (xcu 503122) for the fairground, Tattered Lace Patchwork Elephant die, Bee die from Creative Expressions Honey Bee Circle, Monkey and Parrot from X cut Build a Scene Jungle. Available to buy in my shop

I have known the rhyme for years, but it seems I always misheard it, as I do with many things, the rhyme goes;

We went to the animal fair,
The birds and the beasts were there,
The big baboon by the light of the moon
Was combing his golden hair.
The monkey fell out of his bunk,
And slid down the elephant’s trunk,
The elephant sneezed – Achoo!
And fell on her knees,
And what became of the monkey,
Monkey, monkey, monkey, monkey?

The reason mine has a bee in the picture is because I thought it said the birds and the bees! Anyway a bee is a beast!! Like I say there is alwyas one who is different!!

I was delighted when the next rhyme was Cats Sleep Anywhere

Cats sleep anywhere, any table, any chair.
Top of piano, window-ledge, in the middle, on the edge.
Open drawer, empty shoe, anybody’s lap will do.
Fitted in a cardboard box, in the cupboard with your frocks.
Anywhere! They don’t care! Cats sleep anywhere.

Eleanor Farjeon (1881 – 1965)

This was my contribution

The cats in the pictures are our previous cat Timmy who died last year aged 20, he is the tabby and white, then there is Oreo our current cat, the black one and then there is a friends cat the Ginger one called Biscuit as we don’t have a piano!!

The next rhyme was How Much is that Doggy in the Window, I remember my Grandma singing it to us as kids so another one I had to join in

This made using Toby’s Sill Window Die from Tonic Studios, Tattered Lace 363154 Puppy Die and Spellbinders Die D Lites Flutter Tree, backing paper with bones on and a heart embossed card blank from Craftstyle. Available to buy in my shop.

Another challenge was a blue theme so I entered one of the cards I had made for an order

Made with pattern from Form a Lines and gingham card Hunkydory Adorable Scorable

I got some great offers on Hunkydory Adorable Scorable last year and it is brilliant card. got my eye on some Galaxy Themed, luckily it is out of stock!!!

Another theme Thinking of You and I entered this one

Made using an old style Sizzix Teapot die and Adrable scorable card and a little stitched flower.

The next rhyme theme is a verse I haven’t heard before, but appeals to me as I love Autumn Colours and I have several ideas cluttering up my brain!

The Colors of Fall

(Diane & Daniel Henderson)

Orange is for a pumpkin big and round.

Yellow is for leaves that fall to the ground.

Red is for an apple ripe for eating.

Green is for monsters that go trick or treating.

Brown is for a football, thrown down the field.

Purple is for grapes from a bountiful yield.

Blue is the sky what a wonderful sight.

Black is for cats that howl in the night.

White is the moon looking quite luminescent

Sometimes it shines in the shape of a crescent.

Pink stripes at a sunset ending our day.

Tan is the scarecrow  – the color of hay.

Grey is the shadow of geese flying by.

Kaleidoscope colors that lift our hearts high.

There is also a colour challenge to use Red, Orange and Green. I love Red and Orange so am tempted. Leaves is the theme of one of the other challenges and I love Autumn Leaves and I have this song stuck in my head;

Autumn days when the grass is jewelled
And the silk inside a chestnut shell.
Jetplanes meeting in the air to be refuelled.
All these thing I love so well

So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget.
To say a great big
Thank You
I mustn’t forget

Clouds that look like familer face
And the winters moon with frosted rings.
Smell of bacon as I fasten up my laces
And the song the milkman sings

So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget.
To say a great big
Thank You
I mustn’t forget

Whipped-up spray that is rainbow-scattered
And a swallow curving in the sky
Shoes so comfy though they’re worn out and they’re battered
And the taste of apple pie.

So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget
To…

We used to sing this a lot at Primary School.

So many ideas, not enough time or energy, but need something to brighten the days and avoid the depressing news we are surrounded by.
