The challenge for Aug 4th is my choice of song and I chose Our Last Summer by Abba. The song was released in 1980 and featured on the Super Trouper Album and was inspired by a summer romance Björn Ulvaeus had in Paris.
I can still recall
Our last summer
I still see it all
Walks along the Seine
Laughing in the rain
Our last summer
Memories that remain
We made our way along the river
And we sat down in the grass by the Eiffel tower
I was so happy we had met
It was the age of no regret
Oh, yes
Those crazy years
That was the time of the flower-power
But underneath
We had a fear of flying
Of growing old
A fear of slowly dying
We took a chance
Like we were dancing our last dance
I can still recall
Our last summer
I still see it all
In the tourist jam
Round the Notre Dame
Our last summer
Walking hand in hand
Paris restaurants
Our last summer
Morning croissants
Living for the day
Worries far away
Our last summer
We could laugh and play
And now you’re working in a bank
A family man, a football fan
And your name is Harry
How dull it seems
Are you the hero of my dreams?
I can still recall
Our last summer
I still see it all
In the tourist jam
Round the Notre Dame
Our last summer
Walking hand in hand
I can still recall
Our last summer
I still see it all
Walks along the Seine
Laughing in the rain
Our last summer
Memories that remain
I have spent ages trying to decide how to represent the song, looking at lines such as “laughing in the rain”, “we sat down on the grass by the Eiffel Tower”. In the end I went with two lines and an overall kind of representation. “Walking hand in hand” and “Memories that remain”
The image is created with a couple cut out of glitter card using a Cricut image, the suitcase is also a Cricut image with the detailing drown on rather than cut, Paris lettering drawn with Cricut and heart also cut with Cricut, the background paper is from a Paris download I bought in 2017 ( from a seller called Fudgybrownies on Etsy)
As the Olympics are currently taking place in Paris there will be many people with memories of Paris this summer. There is potential in this challenge to use the line “Are you the hero of my dreams?” and make an Olympic themed card.
I also thought about stitching an Eiffel tower as I did in 2017 after we went to Paris, but thought the cut images were more fun to create with. Pattern form Stitching cards
Looking forward to seeing what other people make.
great post, Jane
