Happy New Year

A bit late to the party with my blog for the challenge that began on Sunday, it’s been a crazy few weeks and not much sign of any let up, so here goes.

The rhyme chosen was the apt The Year by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Wilcox was an American writer and poet, she started writing poetry aged 8 and had her first poem published when she was 13. She is the author of several well known quotes; “Love lights more fires than hate extinguishes.” “A weed is but an unloved flower.” “Laugh, and the world laughs with you;
Weep, and you weep alone;” “We flatter those we scarcely know, We please the fleeting guest, And deal full many a thoughtless blow To those who love us best.” She was obviously a very perceptive lady.

So on to the challenge. I have been dying to make a cricut lantern and when I saw one that said Happy New Year, I decided to try it for this challenge, not actually having much hope that it would work. Amazingly it did, after a few issues. I wasn’t convinced at my ability to get it to stick together or stand up either so when I finally had it done I was quite surprised, so here it is my lantern, inspired the by the New Year.

It is cut on my Cricut Joy Extra using card fir the main body and orange vellum for the windows, it has a battery tealight inside. After I had made it I thought that it would have been good to make the white parts in the glow in the dark card I have, but I didn’t have time to make another, maybe next time. I am looking forward to making more lanterns as I was so pleased with how this turned out and I have seen lots of patterns. The pattern for this one was purchased on Etsy from a designer called Motarui. There are some amazing designs at reasonable prices.
